Our Community and Beyond
At St. Ethelbert's, we believe in supporting those around us, particularly those in need. Our children are encouraged to respond to local, national and global need and are taught that these actions are a direct response to God’s Word. We supported Slough Foodbank during harvest time where we collected 412kg of food for those in need in Slough. In November, we raised a huge £716.02 for Cippenham Royal British Legion branch Poppy Appeal 2024. In December, we held a fantastic Santa Dash for our whole school community on our daily mile track, raising £253 which was used to purchase books for our most vulnerable pupils to use. We are looking forward to raising funds for CAFOD during our Big Lent Walk with our families and governors.
Links with Parish
We also have very close links with our local parishes. We are so lucky to have our church on the same site as our school and so regularly attend Masses at Holy Redeemer with its parishioners. We also celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation in Church in Advent and Lent. We visit Holy Redeemer at other times of the year, for example, sharing the story of the Nativity and Stations of the Cross with Khalsa Primary, our neighbouring Sikh school. We support the First Holy Communion programme and our choir sings at the First Holy Communion Mass at Holy Redeemer.

As well as being part of the local parish family, we are also members of the wider family in the Diocesan of Northampton. The school serves Bishop David to help fulfill his vision. His motto is Beati Pauperes Spiritu- ‘Blessed are the poor in spirit’. The Beatitudes define our relationship with Jesus Christ and teach us how we should behave in the world following the example of Jesus. Links with Parents
Our parents support the children and the school through prayer and liturgy. We recognise that they are the first educators of their child in faith. Our parents help to teach prayers to their child, join us for liturgies and masses, attend celebrations such as our Nativity and Easter performances and visit our parent workshops on prayer. A monthly parent newsletter on prayer is sent home on Seesaw which is linked to the Liturgical Year and helps to support their child to pray at home. We value the close relationships with have between school, home and parish.
Links with Udayan
As part of our Jubilee Year pledge, we have forged links with Udayan. Udayan is a home and school on the outskirts of Kolkata, India, for children whose families are affected by Leprosy. It was founded by Mother Teresa. The children of families affected by leprosy suffer from the stigma of the disease - they are rarely sent to school and often end up as beggars, street children, child workers or involved in crime. Every year Udayan helps up to 300 children receive the highest quality of care, compassion and education - to enable them to lead healthy, respected, productive lives. We will be fundraising for new bedding and mosquito nets for the children of Udayan during the Jubilee Year 2025.
